Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UPDATE

Re: Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UP

barlidge,

you are so very welcome. I was tickled  to be able to help.

When I find something like this that I don't want to have to hunt for again, I save it in Evernote (free program that I love).

Great Canadian, yes, at the top railing.

Top edge of pool : 10'8"x 22'10" (approx 11 x 23 as you said)
Bottom of pool : 12' x 24'
bottom of supports (actual footprint overall) 13'10" x 25'10" (I thought this was the one you were looking for)
pool wall is 52" high
water depth is 45"

You are most welcome! So happy I (lil ole me) could contribute!

I am learning SO much from everyone here and it feels good to be able to participate.

Yes this is a great forum. I only joined last year. A month after joining my neighbors were amazed how clear my pool water was. Only a small pool, but still needs to be maintained!! I've been learning lots. It's kept me out of the pool stores!!

Re: Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UP

You say "ONLY" a small pool. No such thing as "ONLY" in my book.

Last year I was on the receiving end of a "re-homing" for a small fee, 16' intex easy set pool. Absolutely LOVED it. We managed to get just as wet in it as we would have in a 24' x 100' pool. As my signature line states, I currently don't even have a pool. Mine died  . The ring had an air leak, too much rain, water breached the fence side and it washed away a bunch of soil. I emptied it so I could repair the soil issue. Left it too long and now the ring is brittle. oops :hammer: .

BUT! I am making arrangements for a better pool and filtering system  . I cannot wait! Hopefully, in a couple of weeks I'll have the permit, get the tree out of the middle of where I want the pool (could not find a donut shaped pool anywhere) and then the real work starts! :whip:

Just found all the smileys. They are just too cute!

Re: Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UP

Hi, I have a question about your installation of the thru the wall skimmer. I'm about to take the plunge as well - have the hayward skimmer all ready to go - Scared to death to cut the liner! I have the intex 10X20x52, but it's the blue one from costco, not the grey one. Does anyone know if the liners are the same, just different colors? Also, did you cut directly under the seam? Did you use any silicone in addition to the gasket? Thanks for any info.

Re: Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UP

I have had both the blue & the grey liners.. The grey seems to be a little thicker, but not enough that you should worry about cutting the blue.

I just installed a skimmer yesterday.
I did not cut the seam. I went just under the seam.
I know other people did not have to use silicone, but I could not get it to stop leaking in one spot so I removed it & put silicone under the gasket inside the pool.
Now I have no leaks.

Re: Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UP

I'm not sure of the differences between the liner. I installed my skimmer so that the cutout was directly under the seam and the top fixing holes are through the seam meaning the top of the skimmer clamps on the seam itself for max strength.

Note: I think there are varied opinions on the forum regarding fixing the skimmer and the seam, I can only suggest you read as many posts as possible and decide which way you feel is best.

My preference was to use silicone or a similar waterproofing adhesive both for leak prevention and strength, however, do to the UK winters my pool has to be packed away and I store it in my loft over winter and I figured it will be easier to pack away with the skimmer removed so I chose not to use a sealant, everything is all good so far with mine :) Again I think its a personal choice.

Good luck

Re: Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UP

I finally took the plunge today and installed the skimmer. Felt like throwing up the entire time I was cutting the liner! I'm happy to say it went well and is working great. I did mine directly under the seam like above and used a bit of silicone as well just to be on the safe side. For me, it worked better to get inside the pool when tightening the screws down. I bought the winterizing faceplate and cover (Aquador) so I don't have to drain the water level in the winter anymore, just snap on the cover like tupperware. Now I'm just waiting for my new pump/filter and heater to show up. This year I'm going to truly enjoy the pool!

Thanks for all your input. I learn new things all the time from this forum.

Re: Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UP

Hi, I'm new to the site and I found this post on the skimmer install ( something I've wanted to try for a while now) I have a rectangle 32x16 intex. I too took the plunge and cut my pool for the skimmer, but.... I did it with some water in it, about 3/4 full. Oops....... it pulled so bad on the liner that we decided to drain the water out (thank God we still had the old round pool laying in the yard so we didn't have to waste it) Anyways now I'm in need of suggestions on how to strengthen that area. Haven't gotten all of the water out but it is down quit a bit and the liner seems to still be pulling really bad from the weight of the water. Even with the skimmer mounted it seemed to be pulling really bad. My husband and I both were worried the liner was going to tear where the screws went through the liner. ? maybe that was my problem? I just assumed all skimmers had screws that were meant to go through the steel wall of the typical above ground pool. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, welcome to TFP! Can you post a picture of the problem? That will help us generate some ideas that will be of help to you.

As Zea3 said some pics would be helpfull to fully understand what your trying to describe, if you think its still under stress I would remove remove the remaining water asap, I'm pretty sure you will have to remove it anyway before any remedial work can be done.

Re: Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UP

I wanted to mount the skimmer before cutting the whole but because it was so full the lip on the skimmer prevented me from doing so. I am kicking myself now for filling pool first, its just this thing is sooo big it barely stands without water in it. ??? Oh well learn something new everyday.

Re: Through Wall Skimmer on Rectangular Intex Ultra Frame UP

That does help a lot, I dont think it looks too drastic, if it was me I would drain ALL the remaining water out to relieve any pressure on the liner, you should then be able to fit the skimmer to your original outlines. Once the skimmer is installed it should then support the weight of the liner below the hole. Also I would use a good quality silicon both inside and outside to add extra strength and not fill it until its had time to cure properly (prob 24 hrs).

How far down have you mounted the skimmer? The final water level should be about two thirds up the skimmer hole for it to be effective, from your second picture it looks as though it might be a little low.
