These numbers are out of my tap

Hey AP !!
They said my TDS is super high, what can I do to lower it?
You can stop going to Leslie's with their made up Hogwash. TDS is the most irrelevant # out there. Chlorine, Calcium, Salt, metals, CH, CYA, and many others all combine for the TDS and it tells you ZERO.

Their testing accuracy is as good as their advice. Get yourself a Taylor based drop kit. K-2006C widely available, or a tf-100 from tftestkits.net.

Nothing. Ignore it. Come to the TFP ways…

I do have the k-2006C test kit. I will start practicing with it tomorrow. My pool has not been filled yet. Waiting on pebble. That's next week just trying to get ahead of the game.

Oh thank heavens !!! Sorry AP. We see the Leslies sheet and know we are gonna have alot to fix. Phew. Your pool hasnt't been down the chemistry roller coaster yet, so its perfect. We will help you stay that way.

Tap/fill water has no CYA, so their 5 is off. Their chlorine test is probably close, and on par with tap water. The rest of the numbers are random guesses. Funny also how the #s that they track are a far cry from theTDS that they are so worried about.

Ok cool. Now I am curious about the real tds just because. The pools auto fill is hooked up to a water softener. I will be bypassing the water softener for the fill then placing it back in operation.

I get that. But its truly a stupid value. You might as well try to see if you can taste the TDS, it will be equally meaningful. Try both and report back ;)
I will say my tap water taste really bad. I am betting its not 2300. So next is how much more will I spend using liquid chlorine over the tri chlorine tabs?

Oooof. I've never bought a tab. I just saw liquid chlorine is up alot already. $10- $12 for 2 packs at HD/lowes that used to be $7 for 2 or $10 for 3. Tabs will be similarialy higher. But regular tab use will make you drain your pool once the levels get unmanagable in 1-3 years. You also may spend a small fortune clearing swamp after swamp before you give up and and drain.

The immediate liquid chlorine costs are outweighed 10 times in the long run by what they *wont* cost you.

Wife and I are talking about a swg just can't swing it ATM. This ride has been expensive 😫 lol.

The average pool uses 2-4 ppm of FC daily. It may be a 1 in the early/late season and a 5 in the peak season. But lets say you average a 3 acroos the year. Thats just under a half gallon a day ($2.50 a day at the moment) and wont totally break the bank.

Your 15k gallons is right about the break even point for SWG. Smaller pools only do it for convieneience (which is PRICELESS btw) and larger pools see a savings by going to SWG. My pool will be 35k gallons and ill see over 2X cheaper by going swg. The buy in sucks, but mine will pay for itself twice +.

That's great. Get a SpeedStir also.

Note the readings on your water meter at the start and end of the fill (and subtract normal household water use). Then you'll have an accurate pool volume.

Highly recommend getting a SWG instead of using liquid chlorine (tabs are not a feasible long-term chlorinating option). After a proper test kit, a SWG and robot are the best things you will spend money on.

The convenience, efficiency, time, and money saved by using a SWG is absolutely worth the upfront cost.
