Guys,

I visited a pool this morning.the client has been adding liquid chlorine manually to maintain the pool and he used to be constantly adding HCL to control the PH level without controlling TA.

I tested the water parameters and here they are:

TA=near zero

PH=5

FC=0(it was an outdoor pool and people here do not use CYA)

CH=300

So at the time he was adding liquid chlorine at the place of addition the water turned grey.

I wonder why is this happenig.

I had some cal hypo with me and broke it with a hammer turning it into powders and poured it into the water and surprisingly watched that with cal hypo the color of water did not change at all.

Why didn't the color of water change with cal hypo?

Thanks.

Well if I had to guess I'd say the acidic water has been eating away at the grout and when the high pH liquid chlorine is added it briefly brings this stuff out of suspension. Cal-hypo does not have as high a pH so it would not cause the same thing to happen.
