The PH, TA, CSI battle is real

Perhaps it’s new plaster as I am only (100) days in but I don’t recall my prior pool being this finicky.

Basically trying to keep CSI under 0. This journey means adding frequent acid to lower PH which in turn lowers TA. Seem the pool likes to drift up PH to 7.8 from 7.3 in about 1-2 days. 7.3 PH gives me a CSI around -0.38 depending on water temp. This was fine as TA went from 90 to now 50.

So this morning TA 50, PH 7.8, CSI is like -0.7. So I add acid to get PH to 7.5 which gave me a CSI of -0.35. All good, but if my TA continues to drop then I need to add baking soda to bring it back up and start over again?

Is this normal to have to chase this on a almost daily basis?

Its normal if you are trying to keep the pH that low. Its fine at 7.8 and will probably stay there if you let it.

Heres a trick if you have room for more CYA, try putting a few trichlor tabs in a floater and they’ll add chlorine and hold the pH down a bit. I havent had to add acid all season so far.

Based on your PoolMath, there is no reason to force pH down.
Just keep CSI in the 0.00 to -0.30 range to minimize scaling in the SWG.

Forcing pH into the low 7's range is unnecessary with your present TA and CH.
What is your autofilll water pH, TA and CH?
If your fill water CH is high, you could benefit from plumbing your autofill to a water softener.

I was getting scaling on my salt cell 45 days in and then again 10 days later after cleaning. I am also seeing very small amounts of white calcium on a few areas of tile grout in just a couple places in the pool. I have kept the CSI on the negative side since day one.

Fill water has CH of 275 TA of 180, No way I am gonna be able to plumb to my soft water in the garage without construction and holes in walls I don’t want.

If you have a one story house, have you considered running the soft water line thru the attic crawl space and exiting under the eve right above the present autofill connect point? My neighbor did that for his autofill. I trenched along the side of the house from thee garage to the autofill. Many ways to do it.
