Hello, new pool owner here. Our pool has a pebble tec liner and a SWG. After re-reading the Pool School and going through various owner's manuals, I've noticed that the TFP differs substantially from the other sources on the recommended TA and CYA levels:
TPF recommends:Taylor test kit and Pentair Intellichlor instructions both recommend:
Cyanuric Acid (CYA), assuming 3.0ppm FC target.60-90ppm (70-80 ideal)30-50ppm
Total Alkalinity (TA)50-90ppm (60-80 ideal)80-120ppm

I'm inclined to go with the TFP numbers, but am curious as to the reason for the difference. Maybe it's because TFP takes into account other factors such as pool lining type?

Science. Especially the CYA. You can read about it in Pool Water Chemistry

The TA difference is that you do need higher TA levels when you use Trichlor and dichlor shock as per Pool Store instructions. Those products are very acidic. So keeping a higher TA and constantly adding Alkalinity or Balancer or whatever (they are all baking soda) you will not crash your pH and make the pool an acid bath.
