Textured Liner All Over vs Just on Steps and Sundeck?

Hi,

We are in the process of building a 20x40 pool and were between Merlin Sterling Shore and Merlin Island Granite. We love the Island Granite, but wish it was textured like the Sterling Shore. I like the idea of some grip as I never liked the feel of smooth slippery vinyl. We think also perhaps the texture will make it feel more like a gunite pool?

Our PB automatically has Merlin makes the stadium steps and sundeck textured. Merlin has an option of also making the texture or embossed vinyl throughout the whole pool (floor, walls, etc) with an uncharge fee. I was wondering:

1. Are Embossed liners more difficult to clean compared to all smooth?

2. Does the Embossed vinyl not last as long or is more tear prone since I would think it gets thinner as it is embossed?

3. Should we just keep it smooth as is except in the stairs and sundeck? or make it all textured?

6 of one and half a dozen of another............that to say there are pluses and minuses of each one. The steps and shelf will get the most "abuse" as they will be walked on and used the most so the embossed surface has to be pretty sturdy.

Can you please expand on the minuses of the textured liner? Is it more difficult to clean compared to the smooth? We are trying to decide if we should also add it to the pool floor. Thanks

I don't really have any real life experience. I am going on my gut mostly. I worry about the same thing you mention of it maybe thinner but don't really think it would be but something to think about. I also worry, like you do on it being harder to sweep and such.

The first thing I would do is see if anyone around you had a piece of the liner for you to feel and look at and from there. I think that will answer any concerns.

I have textured liner on my bench and it feels beefier than the rest of the pool. I'm very happy with it from a durability standpoint.

It's fading quicker than the rest of the pool, but I'm 98% sure that's because it's horizontal and 18 inches deep.
