On Friday my Hayward 3400VSP tripped both the 20AMP circuit on the pool pad and the 70AMP breaker in the main panel. I checked all the wiring and turned everything back on to find that the control panel lit up and worked, but the pump did not startup. I got the manual and went through the diagnostic menu to see the message "Comm Bus Offline." I followed the diagnostics in the manual and it seems to indicate that the controller is bad. I opened the panel to expose the wiring to the controller and found what looks to be a scorch mark on the circuit board near the mains input. At this point, I am pretty sure the controller is burned out, but I want to be sure before I spend 500$ on a new one. Is there a way to test just the pump to validate that it's still working and all I need is a new controller? How long can I leave the pump offline in the winter before I am going to have problems?
