Test kit question

I have 2 questions about testing.

1. Is it normal to never see CCs when testing? I think when I first got my test kit I saw some ever so slight pink color when testing combined, but now I never do. I'll also add I've started doing the 10ml test at the recommendation of this forum.

2. My DPD spoon has turned black. Is that normal? Am I supposed to rinse it after each test?

Completely normal.

Yes. Clean it with some rubbing alcohol if you want. Black doesn't cause any problems. No need to rinse after every test. Clean the spoon and your testing vial with rubbing alcohol every once in a while to keep them clean.

In theory, you should never have any CC's..

I never worry about the color of the spoon, but there is no reason you can't rinse if off if you want.

In all my years of testing I have never had the dipper turn black. You should rinse it after every use and then dry it off before stowing it away. The black discoloration comes from a fine layer of powder left on the spoon after using it. Rinsing for a quick 2 seconds under the kitchen faucet and drying it off with paper towel will keep it clean.

Perhaps TFP needs to include a “How To Clean Up Your Test Equipment” section to PoolSchool …

I just ordered 5 or 6 last time I did a refill - at $0.50, I like to have a few spare just in case I misplace the 'original' anyway.

+1 what Joyful said. While it may be nit-picking, I am a firm believer in the cleanest possible tests, That black is residual powder that has been exposed to moisture. The longer you keep moisture away from the powder, the better.

Keep your spoon (AND all other test equipment) clean and dry.......it just makes sense.
