Test Kit Arrived Today - I need someone to walk me through this

Walmart’s 2 pack of 10% liquid chlorine is one of the best non sale prices around. If you live near a Menard’s tho, they have an excellent sale right now.

I've checked prices in Georgia at Walmart, Bob's Do It Best, Lowe's, Home Depot, and Target. Caution with Liquid Chlorine at Walmart tho, all my store had of the single jugs was from 17 107, and saw 2 from 17 056.

Also, at least compared to my iron water, that doesn’t look like iron to me. Mine was still crystal clear, just with a dull green color to it. Could easily see the bottom of the pool and every speck of dirt on it. I know particularly bad iron water will end up looking like nasty brown lake water, so this could be somewhere in between. Definitely need to tell your city about it tho, cuz either way, iron or algae, it’s in the public water and it shouldn’t be.

No idea how city water would look like this. I'd consider draining and filling from your hose. 4000 gallons shouldn't take too long to fill up especially if you can get more than one hose going.

If not draining then keep the pump running 24/7 until it clears up. Have you tested chlorine and pH yet today?

At the start of this thread the OP showed the water coming from a FIRE HYDRANT. Some of the nastiest water available.

I would agree that unless there are significant issues with it, drain and start over using TAP water.

Take care.

What I think is weird is most cities up here flush every hydrant in the spring. And it is the same water that comes out of our faucets.

I know that our fire hydrant was not flushed, and the fire dept members that hooked the hose up for us said, "just run the water for a while" and then fill the pool. The water in our house isn't nasty like the water in the pool. We keep several gallons of tap water in our fridge and it's crystal clear.

I'm going to drain the pool and fill again. I want to sincerely thank everyone that has helped me out with this post. This has definitely been a learning experience. I will post again once my pool has been refilled and my TF 100 test kit arrives.

Around here, the fire hydrants are physically part of the city water / tap water system. They are one and the same.

Kittson, if you have the same type of system, then there should be no way that came out of the hydrant. Is it possible that crud was in the truck water tank or in the hoses they used to pump the water through? It wouldn't be unheard of for a firetruck / hoses to have stream, pond, or lake water in them.

In most areas I know of, the fire water system is separate from the household system. Might be the same water, but the hydrant water is stagnant unless flushed or used to fight a fire!

Take care

I spoke with one of the fire dept members today, and it could very well be the gunk in the line by the fire hydrant. We live in a swampy area and the fire dept pretty much only is called to grass/forest fires (very few structure fires), so I wouldn't be surprised if the 600 feet of hose that went from the hydrant to the pool was at some time exposed to the nasty stuff that grows in a swamp.

The water from the hydrant is no comparison to the water I drink in my house. It's definitely different, so I don't know what else to say about that.

Many of us have had to completely/partially drain and refill in order to get our water right, including me! You've come to TFP at a great time to learn from your new refill. You will have this under control and be the envy of your neighbors. It can seem like a lot to learn, but once you get it, you "get it"! Ask tons of questions and read Pool School (top of page). Tons of great info that'll help you make sense of it all. Hang in there!

Ms. Pad, just a side note; for me when I read TFP messages I get promoted to read it through Tapatalk so when people say to click on pool school or whatever at the top of the page it's not there. I'm always viewing from my phone. I am familiar with the website and realize that's the view you are referring to but I wonder if anyone at TFP HQ is aware that Tapatalk is limited in function like this.
I'm assuming that Tapatalk is somehow a part of TFP?

Tapatalk is just a 3rd part viewing app, no affilication with the websites. there are thousands and thousands of website that are viewable via taptalk to see the links you need to use your phone's browser and go to the actual website. taptalk is great for viewing the messages but nto the extra features of the website

Well I agree but I wonder how many people don't realize there is much more to TFP than visible from Tapatalk.
