Hello, we recently had our pool opened and discovered that we had a break in one of the lines. We are in the St Louis area so a freeze break could be a possibility. I am posting the break for any input. Thank you.

Is the pipe inside the 45 fitting also broken or just the 45?

So looks like tension break then like the end was pushed this way.

What was it attached to ? Did somebody fall into the filter and shift it ?
No, it was part of our underground line that went to the jets. The guy that repaired it said it was a tension break. The original builder said it was due to freezing.

It is not a freeze crack.

Freeze cracks will go through the pipe and be more parallel to the pipe (Red Line).

It is a Stress Crack.

Stress Cracks normally happen at the inside corner (Black Line).

However, due to a lack of glue, the stress was not transferred to the inside corner and it cracked in an unusual way.

I was also noticing the lack of glue. Normally it squeezes out a bit when you press the fitting on. It’s a fine balance of not enough and too much glue. For underground stuff it’s better to err on the side of too much.
