Taking over pool responsibilities and overwhelmed!

If your CYA is 50, your FC is 2.8, then you need to add 4 Gallons of 12.5% LC...or 5 gallons of 10%.

Yes, all at one time. Pour slowly in front of a return (pencil thin stream)...should take about 2 min per gallon. Brush around a bit after each gallon.
Ok…I’ve put 3 so far and didn’t quite do pencil thin. Will do on my last two

Its a bit of overkill, but will protect any finish...
GM, sorry to bother you, but after reading tons of stuff to figure out on my own, I’m stumped. Started slam yesterday and tried to test FC last night and this morning but test not testing. Sample water turned dark red when added R-0870 but will NOT turn clear when R-0871 drops r added. I used 10mL and 25mL. I cleaned test tub with alcohol, swirled, inverted bottle for perfect drops, sampled water from deep end away from return, collected water 18 inches down…pool is clean and clear. Used K2006C to test

Well that is a new one. You have been doing this test for a while now so you know how to do it so I don't think it is testing error. My thought is your chlorine was way hot. Please go grab the jug it was in and look at the born on date for me. Also look at the stated % of active chlorine. I know where I get chlorine at it is stated to be 11% BUT it comes in HOT so that it is still is 11% after sitting in the sun a couple of days.

Cleaned the test tube for the fifth time with alcohol, paper towels, cotton balls and really wiping all the way to the bottom. Did another 10mL but only used one scoop of R-0870 and after 39 drops of 0871 it finally cleared.
Chlorine is from Walmart and was inside store and I store in my house. It’s 10%. I did notice it was right on expiration date, and a really strong smell.

Sorry, it’s somewhere on here.
The old pool math calculator has a volume calculator. (PoolMath)

Let's reset.

If you had 25mL sample, an FC of 20 in the pool would be 100 drops. That might have been what you found.

Use 10mL sample for your testing.

Let's also make sure you pool volume is close. Post dimensions.

This is where I got it. I’ve read and looked at so much! 🥴. I’m going to have to figure again because my husband was helping me measure and I entered in numbers in app. I didn’t write anything down..

36x18x6.5. = 31,500 gallons
9+4=13 divided by 2 = average pool depth -
Deep end is 9’ shallow is 4’

So there are two likely culprits. Your chlorine % or you had a 25mL sample size and 20FC would be 100 drops.

What is the chlorine product you are using?

For testing...

Take care, use 10mL sample.

When you use the reagent, hold the bottle vertical and squeeze VERY gently, allow the drop to form and drop under its own weight. Swirl (unless you have a speed stir).

If you squeeze drops out quickly, they are smaller than expected and will require more drops.

Also, I started out using the 10mL test and wouldn’t work then used 25mL, same. The initial red color was way darker than usual so I was suspicious….did this last night and this morning.
Finally, 10mL worked with 1 scoop of R-0870.
Test kit is not expired and R-0870 is white, no clumps
