We recently purchased a new Master Spa Balance 8. Master Spas recommends a TA of 80-150. TFP recommends 50-90. Why the big difference? Is 80-90 the best level?
Welcome to TFP! Many times manufactures site a generic level reference based on various assumptions like using acidic chlorine tablets that pull the pH too low and be problematic over time. TFP has developed more refined standards based on scientific reasoning and chemical interaction. In short, the TFP TA level range of 50-90 is perfectly acceptable for all pool/spa surfaces. The lower TA help to prevent the pH from rising too quickly which is always a struggle, especially in a spa/hot tub. The main purpose of the TA is to serve as a buffer for the pH to prevent erratic behavior. Anywhere in the 50-90 range is fine. I keep my pool at about 50 year round.
