I have to confirm, but pretty sure my T- 15 cell is failing. I’m going to bring it to Leslie’s to have it checked, but if it is bad, I’m curious if there are any other decent replacement options? These cells are getting to be terribly expensive and they seem to last long enough to be out of warranty. Also looking for advice for the best place to purchase one would be? I did a search, but most of the threads were old unless I’m just plumb missing it thanks in advance for any help or advice. It was reading low salt a while back turned out the salt level was fine actually a little high. So I cleaned it and then it started working about four weeks ago. Now it’s reading 2300 when the salt level is 3200. Saying inspect cell.

I purchased the platinum edition replacement cell from the Saltpoolstore.com about three years ago and it is still going strong. Now I know that this store has gotten bad reviews and a bad BBB rating so I guess that I was one of the lucky ones that did not get a "dud". Attached is the cell in action.

Thank you for that reply. I was going to take my T5 sale into Leslie‘s to have it tested but when I took it off, I could tell it was a little dirty so I went ahead and cleaned it with a 10% mixture of acid until it quit bubbling. Put it all back together and right now it’s saying generating but it’s still reading 2300 ppm salt which I know is way low compared to what it really is. I’ll let it run a while and see what happens but I’m still very suspicious - is there anyway to reset the salt readout?

Edit, the reading has went up to 2500 after running about 10 minutes so maybe it’s just going to take time to build back up?

Edit edit:
2700 ppm
Climbing!

Is 2500, instantaneous or average salt level:

Cell Diagnostics

Pressing the diagnostic button sequentially will display:

  • Default salt display
  • Pool temp
  • Cell Voltage - When not generating, the voltage is about 30 to 32 volts dc. When generating, the voltage drops about 1 volt per amp of current.
  • Cell current
  • Desired output (% of the knob)
  • Instant salinity
  • Product name
  • Software revision (r.XX)
  • Cell type
The Hayward Aquarite Troubleshooting Guidelines explains each reading.

  • Instant salt = the cells reading of the current salt PPM
  • Average Salt = the average salt reading of the last 3 cycles of the cell.

Reset Average Salt

  • Turn the system OFF and back to Auto
  • Push the Diagnostic button until Instant Salt appears on display (wait until it stabilizes then proceed to next step)
  • While showing Instant Salt, flip main toggle switch from Auto, up to Super Chlorinate then back to Auto
If instant salt reading is under 2400ppm the system will not chlorinate.

Your first post says you have a T15 cell. Your second posts says T5. Which one is it? What is the board revision # on your system? Have you taken the cell to Leslie's to have it tested? Whatever you do, do purchase anything from Salt Pool Store, they are bad news.

Sorry for my typo, it is a T15.

After I took it off and was going to bring it to Leslie‘s to test, even though I cleaned it not that long ago, I noticed some debris and even some scale in it so I went ahead and took a ~15% acid solution and let it soak for an hour until everything stopped reacting. I reinstalled it and it seems to be working fine and the salt level now reads 3000 ppm. So now I’m just going to wait and see what happens but for now all is good. Fingers crossed.🤞
