Our Intex Salt Generator died. It lasted a year which I am beginning to think is their lifespan! While we wait for the replacement I have a question. Normally our levels are totally balanced and we rarely have to make adjustments. When we noticed a little cloudiness we new the salt cell was dying.

I used the calculator and added some Muriatic acid and some liquid chlorine last night and today the chemicals are balanced again. For the next week we are expecting day time temps over 100 and nothing but sun. I thought about putting a chlorine tablet in to keep up with the chlorine burn off but I have never used them before. We are rural so the only ones I could find were 1. Clorox Xtra Blue 94.05% Trichloro-s-triazinetrione total chlorine 84.65% says it has other ingredients but does not list them. 2. HTH 4-in-1 93.8% Trichloro-s-Triazinetrione and 3.5% zinc total chlorine 84%.

Any advice for keeping balanced until the new salt generator comes in? Thank you!!

Follow the chlorine side of the FC/CYA Levels
Count that cya as 70 (always round up - no inbetweens)
Dose to the high target 🎯 w/ liquid chlorine asap. Replenish that daily. Ensure u don’t go below minimum for your cya.
The products u listed will add cya as well as fc - your cya is high enough for now so stick with liquid chlorine.
Do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to rule out algae since u mentioned cloudiness.
If u pass continue with what i said above.
If u fail —> SLAM Process

Perfect - Thank you. It's working so far, crystal clear again and no SLAM needed so far. Watching my CYA numbers as the temp climbs this week.

Any recommendations for a better salt system for a 7000 gallon above ground Intex 18X52?

That is the biggest model intex makes & should do fine for your volume - most folks get a few years out of them. Keeping cya up around 70-80 in the heat of the summer really helps them maintain.
They’re an ok value for the price for what they provide, being on a temporary pool & all. I had 1 - 7k gal unit & 1 - 15k gal unit on my 26k gal pool until recently & they kept up ok until the dog days so I supplemented w/ liquid chlorine a couple times a week.
The next step up - Calimar or pureline (generic Hayward type units) would cost u around $600 + & may or may not live longer. Most have about 3 yr warranty. That may be worth looking into if u plan to upgrade your pool size in the future.
After that there’s circupool, Hayward, & pentair units starting around $800 and beyond, some with longer warranties than others.
If u upgrade- You want a unit rated for at least 2xs your pool volume.
