I closed my pool over a month ago but left my SWG installed (drained)but not running because I wasn’t sure what to put on the fittings after I removed it. What can I put on the exposed ends once I take off the cell and where do I buy it?

Any hardware store or HD,/Lowes should have Expanding rubber plugs. Pool stores might have them as well. Or amazon the corect size if you dont need it today.

With dogs, I throw a zip lock sandwich bag over the end and then some healthy wraps of tape so the dogs don't find the chew toy. But I'm also extra so I'd likely invent a reason to do that if I didn't have dogs. Say. Someone might walk by and get snagged on the plug. (Nobody will be walking by. Zero bodies. :ROFLMAO:)

Newbie here, but i've been doing a lot of research and thought it might be a good time to start posting. You can cap each end of the piping to keep critters out, however most manufacturers make a "dummy cell" that can take the place of your SWG (with a perfect fit) over winter and that will also help prevent frost heaving in your piping as temperatures change throughout the winter months.

For what it's worth, I recently bought a generic brand dummy bypass cell off Amazon that fit perfectly in place of my salt cell while it winters in the basement. Was over 50% cheaper than the Pentair dummy cell. Not sure about the rules for posting external links here, but a quick search should turn something up.

Keep an old depleted cell; you can use it as a dummy cell when needed.
