Is it okay to turn the SWCG to zero as an "off" while say cleaning the filter or pump basket? How crucial is it for the SWCG to be off? I mean is it okay to leave on while cleaning the pump basket?

I'm planning to wire it in at the junction box so I'll be able to shut the pump off via the button on the control panel but there will still be power running to it and to the SWCG from the breaker.

Our pool has an auto top-off with a 3/4 pvc pipe that runs out of the top-off basket and under the grass for an auto drain.

Will I still have issues during heavy rain where it will actually exchange a noticeable amount of water or will the rain water more or less drain right off the top of the pool seeing as that is where the drain pipe is?

Thank you,

Donnie

You never want to run the SWCG without water flowing. First three in this search are examples of exploding cells because there was no water flowing.

You should find some way to ensure that when the pump is off, the cell is off...even getting a timer that you can use to turn off both at the same time.

I used a current sensing relay (CSR)...my thread on the CSR install. I use this device, CR4395-EH-120-110-X-CD-ELR-I. It senses current on one of the pump's 220v lines and switches 120V to my SWG. Current trip point is adjustable. I took this route because if the pump ever stops working, even if there is power to the pump it will turn off.

Rain impact is typically not enough to throw off chemistry significantly.
