I am not sure if this is the correct forum or not but here goes.

I am going to switch to salt instead of tablets and or liquid chlorine. I purchased a salt test kit to go with my Taylor 2006 and a Circupool RJ60+.

In what order should I do the conversion?

Plumb in cell
mount and wire in SWGC controller
put salt in pool
add liquid chlorine to pool until I get salt level up to 3,500?
How long does it take for salt levels to increase? Are we talking hours, days weeks?

I believe my Taylor kit will still work for TA, PH and hardness as well as FC.

The SWCG has been sitting on my work bench for 2 weeks because of my indecisions! I thought I had the wiring figured out but then a thought hit me, if I turn the power off to the controller, when the controller comes back on will it automatically power back up or will I have to turn it on manually with the on/off switch?

Turn off cell
Test your current salt level. Did you get a k-1766 to test salt, if not get one.
put salt in pool
Calculate how much to put in the pool to get you from current to 3500. Add 80% of that, wait 24 hours, retest. Add more to get to 3500.

YES

24 hours. Fire up the cell when you get to at least 3000. Turn cell off for 24 hours when you add salt.

It will restart and run what was programmed.

Good luck!

Chief,

Please tell me what kind of pump do you have?? Single speed or 2-speed, or VS?

I'd add the salt first so that it has a day or so to mix well with the water. First test the salt level that you currently have, then only add about 90% of what you need to from where you are now, up to 3500..

Where you connect the cell to AC power depends on your pump..

None of the rest matters how you do it.. Just do it... :poke:

Thanks,

Jim R.

I have a single speed pump that currently runs 12 hours a day 7 am to 7 pm. My pool is shaded by 7 pm

Makes sense, I can add the salt in the afternoon then the next morning start my installations and just maybe my salt will be somewhere close to where it needs to be.

Yes I did get the K1766 test kit.

Chief,

Since you have a single speed pump, you would just wire your new SWCG so that it gets power from the same source.. So, when the pump is off, then the cell is off.

I assume your pump is connected to a timer.. If so, you would connect the SWCG to the same output contacts that the pump is connected to..

The note of caution is that you need to make sure that the SWCG is configured for the same voltage going to the pump. So, if the pump is running off of 240, then your SWCG must be set to 240, etc..

Thanks,

Jim R.
