Swap Aqualogic local and wall mount remotes? (troubleshooting non-working remote)

Suddenly getting the dreaded Communication Error 2. Tried power reset with no change. The model number and connections on my white wall display appears to be the same as my local black display. Can I simply swap them to test? (My system is working with all blocks removed, I just can't control or see anything currently.)

Still got errors. Tested continuity on ribbon cable. All good. Put in new (refurb) PCB-Main. Same error.

With local and remote plugged in I get a Comm error 2 on local and a Comm error 1 on remote.
With comm block removed I get Comm error 2 on local and (of course) nothing on remote.
With all blocks removed I get Comm error 2 on local and (of course) nothing on remote.

Tried remote as local on both boards since they are both Goldline P/N 066015E-1's. Comm error.

Any ideas?

I think you will need a new GLX-PCB-MAIN board.

I would upgrade to the OmniPL instead.

AquaLogic to Omni PL Upgrade Kit Install

Just replaced the PCB with same error. Only thing left is the local display. I was hoping that since the remote and local were the same part number they'd be interchangeable, but perhaps not since the error stuck around. Didn't upgrade since house is about to list and just trying to take cheap way to get it back working.

You tested continuity on the ribbon cable but did you test for crossover shorts between wires in the cable?

Could be the ribbon cable.

You are checking all the right things.

Checked continuity for crossover now. No luck , just straight thru no crossover.

Scouting a working local display since substituting the remote for the local didn't work. I guess maybe they flash the locals and remotes with different firmware even though other than color they appear to be the same part number.
