SW Gas new meter tag and hookup question

Sorry to post here, but I have spoken with several people at SW Gas in Las Vegas who are not confident in their answers.

Specifically, my pool contractor installed the gas line for my pool heater, a MasterTemp250, which is new never fired up. The gas line terminates about 3 foot from the heater. The heater is not plumbed but I have the 3/4in black pipe to plumb if needed.

SW Gas will install a new meter and connect to the new gas line which feeds my pool heater pad area. This is like my previous home a few years ago, except the pool contractor plumbed in the heater and SW Gas connected the line and the heater pipe.

The question I have, since I am not doing a plumber/contractor for the heater, is do I need to plumb all the black pipe or does SW Gas usually do that? If they do it I will leave it for them. If I must do it I will work on it before the appointment next week for the new meter.

SW Gas took the order and said the tech would hook everything up and make sure its all in working order before leaving, but couldnt answer my question about teh plumbing of the heater itself.

They will hook up the gas line that goes to THEIR meter and that’s it. You are responsible for hooking up the riser at the equipment pad to the heater. The heater does not need to be hooked up before the gas company does their work but make sure you ask them to install a 1/4 turn shutoff valve on their hook up to your pool gas line. You’ll also be installing a shut off valve at the equipment pad too but having one at the meter is a convenience.

You probably need a trade contractor with a C1 or a C38 license to qualify for the "Installation" of the equipment.

An A-10F classification is ok to install the plumbing.

The permit department should be able to tell you the contractor license classifications that are allowed to install a gas pool heater.

You probably need a permit, which will need to be applied for by the qualified contractor.

The contractor will be able to tell you if they are qualified to apply for a permit to install the heater including the gas plumbing.

NRS 624.600 Required disclosures by general building contractor. A general building contractor shall provide in writing to the owner of a single-family residence with whom he has contracted:

The name, license number, business address and telephone number of:

(a) All subcontractors with whom he has contracted on the project; and

(b) All persons who furnish materials of the value of $500 or more to be used in the project.

A notice that a person described in subsection 1 may record a notice of lien upon the residence of the owner and any building, structure and improvement thereon pursuant to the provisions of NRS 108.226.

An informational form, whose contents must be prescribed by the Board, regarding:

(a) Contractors pursuant to chapter 624 of NRS; and

(b) Mechanics’ and material-men’s liens pursuant to chapter 108 of NRS.

The PRIMARY CLASSIFICATION of C1 - PLUMBING AND HEATING might be sufficient for a company to do the work.

It’s somewhat unclear if there are any requirements for a subclassification.
 
For example:

PRIMARY CLASSIFICATION C38 - INSTALLING EQUIPMENT USED WITH LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS.

SUBCLASSIFICATIONS

C38A PIPES AND VENTS

C38B GAS APPLIANCES AND EQUIPMENT

C38C HEATING AND VENTILATING.
 
Thank you gentlemen. Appreciate the help. I suppose I need to get a contractor to plumb the final few feet then. Here is the stub at the heater that needs to be connected.

It’s a good idea to get a qualified gas plumber to do the work. The piping details are all in the installation manual so there shouldn’t be any questions about how to do it (pretty simple for any pro with a few years experience). Having the pro do it also ensures your warranty with Pentair is in good standing.
 
They will need to pressure test the plumbing to make sure that it is all good.

The plumbing should not have been covered up until the gas contractor and inspector gave approval, so that might be a problem.

Your pool contractor should have taken care of this. The city inspectors would have had to sign off prior to backfill to ensure proper depth of the gas line run to the meter. SW Gas, on my build, connected the new meter to the gas line ran from my pool equipment pad. My heater was already plumbed both water side and gas side.

Unless they have the correct license, it is an illegal installation.

Any new gas contractor will probably not accept an illegal installation done by an unqualified contractor especially if they cannot inspect the line.

The job needs to be permitted and inspected and the installer needs to have the correct license.
 
Yes, the city inspected everything from rough to final just yesterday on the plumbing. Line was pressurized to over 60psi, required by city of Henderson. It has held pressure for a few months so its better than my last pool. By same builder.
