Surface skimmer question

Good afternoon!

I have a Hayward Skim Master IS10712 that was installed by a pool plumber. He’s out of town this week and I really could use his help but I came here where people are much more reliable.

Anyway, there are two galvanized plugs in the bottom of the skimmer basket. I assume this is typical. I need to remove them as plaster has come and the water is rising. I didn’t think this through, I know. Is there a magic trick or is it reverse thread? I don’t want to damage anything so any tips would be very helpful.

Yes. That’s what the manual looks like. It says NPT threads so to me that’s standard pipe thread. No reverse thread which admittedly would be strange but one never knows.

It’s a new pool. Plaster just got done and the water is filling so a sump pump wouldn’t be too helpful imo. I put some muscle into the fitting but didn’t go too far as in general when I try with all my might I break things.

I use a basin wrench. You should be able to find them at Home Depot.

Threads are standard

When this happens with plastic pipes (see picture) the plumber will vibrate the pipes as he unscrews them and that works them loose, hope this helps, Ray.

Bingo! Crescent wrench with screwdriver in the hole didn’t seem that effective.
On my way! (After I get the kiddos in bed) to grab the basin wrench.
