I opened up the pool and started the cleanup process. The main pump, Hayward super pump 0.75 HP is making a loud noise. I replaced the motor with a quality motor two years ago, so I think the noise is coming from the pump side as opposed to the motor. A new pump now goes for $700, as compared to the $350 I paid for it 10 years ago. I will start calling around Monday morning to try to find a repair person, but I'd be appreciative of any advice regarding this kind of repair.

It would be helpful to hear the noise. Any chance you could post a video of it on YouTube then post that link here for us to listen? We can get some unusual noises from the wet end (pump pot area), but typically the loud squealing or scratching noises are from the motor. Maybe post a pic or two of the pump as well from different angles. Any signs of leaking?
