Sunshelf/Baha Shelf depth

We are doing shotcrete tomorrow. Curious what your opinion is for depth of sunshelf. Pool builder suggests 15”. I’m thinking 10-12”. We want it deep enough to “feel” the water, but shallow enough for our dog (chocolate lab) to be comfortable enough to walk around.

PS—any other suggestions for cool ideas are welcome.

Thanks everyone

Measure how high your lab is laying down. He will swim until he cant swim no more and go lay on the sunshelf. As far as the design goes, that all looks amazing. As beautiful to sit and admire as it will be fun/relaxing to enjoy. It needs a big ole BBQ and a hammock to take an after meal nap in.

Ours is 12" as was recommended by the PB. I originally thought that might be a little deep, as most here seemed to be around 9". The 12" has worked out very nicely for us...great depth for lounge chairs, little ones playing, bubbler height, and walking in to retrieve pool toys, umbrella, etc with shorts on.
I think 15" might've been too high for us.

Ours was originally spec'd for 7", but after visiting a resort in Cancun over the 4th, we knew we wanted more than that. We had to add an extra step into the pool, but we're going with 10" for ours, which is deep enough to relax on (with or without a lounge chair), but not so deep that you feel you might float up.

HOT area of the world you should water it twice a day. You can put some sprinklers on a timer to help you with the watering. How long:
-each time until it looks wet
-how many days-if the shell is soaking up the water then keep going a couple more days. If the shell is not soaking up the water right away you can back off on the watering.
