Sump Pump Under Solid Cover?

I made it through the 1st winter, so far.

It was a dry winter/spring so no water needed to be removed from the pool, BUT…..

Is it OK to leave a sump in the pool under a solid cover for 6 months when the pool is closed for the winter?

Next winter I will be gone and will have a friend keeping an eye on things.

Where are you going to place the pump in the pool?

What pump will you use?

Pumps left in the pool sitting on the pool surface have rusted and left rust stains on the pool.

That’s what I am trying to figure out. I was thinking if the pool needs to be pumped, he could just plug it in.
It would be great if I could make it as easy as possible on him.

Leaving a pump submerged in pool water that has salt and chlorine is hard on the pump.

Will he be able to recognize if the pump dies?

What happens then?
