Another successful SLAM thanks to the TFP method. Thank you for everyone’s contributions! For anyone frustrated with their pool, don’t worry it only took me 5 years to figure it all out.

From what I am reading, losing 2.5 PPM from 8am to 12pm is probably too rapid and CYA should be increased. We are leaving on vacation soon and plan to put 2 pucks in the floater to maintain chlorine. Should we deal with the higher FC loss, top off with LC as needed once the SLAM FC lowers to reg FC levels and not add stabilizer since there will be CYA in the pucks?

Two pucks in your pool volume will add 5 ppm CYA. Not significant.
It will also not maintain your chemistry in your pool while your away.

So I'll be watching my neighbors pool while he goes on an 9 day getaway. The plan is to bring it up to slam level and then every three days Ill bring it to slam level.
BTW , I live about 45 miles from Orlando and using 3.5-4.0 ppm chlorine each day.

How many days are you leaving for?

Do you have a neighbor that can dump chlorine for you during pump run hours?

7 days. I don’t have a neighbor I’d trust to dump the right amount of chlorine in the pool. Good to know 3.5-4ppm loss per day isn’t unheard of…what CYA is that at?

hmph…then I’ll add more stabilizer in a sock and dangle it in front of the jet starting now…since it won’t impact CYA with adding pucks while on vacation. Would you suggest more than 2 pucks or something else? I would hate to have to slam again! argh.

I would load a floater with 5 pucks (I believe that is how many it will hold).

That will be a bunch of acid too. So pH can be an issue. Though you TA is high (odd result).

Install a SWCG when you return.

at cya of 40....so here's the way me and a neighbor take this on (lets say MY pool indicates 96 oz for slam level) I add that , 3 days later repeat and on he is just dumping and running under your direction ....kinda like the pool service in the neighborhood

This is good advice/approach…I may be able to convince a neighbor to do this… it’s not too much chlorine back to back? SLAM’d this past weekend…FC should come down this week and we’ll maintain it at the recommended level then basically back up to SLAM 7 or so days later?

So I will answer this way.
1. Make sure your sure CYA is where it NEEDS to be before leaving.
2. Know what your pool is currently using each day , And how many ounces of chlorine are needed to get to your SLAM level.
3. Provide your neighbor with a Pinch a Penny jug of chlorine and a measuring cup and there you go.
it’s not too much chlorine back to back?
You know what your recommended levels are each day and the SLAM levels, so plan on operating to those levels and enjoy your trip.
