We bought our house 17 years ago with a cedar hot tub heated by a Raypak RP2100 pool and spa heater on propane. Although the LCD display is broken, it has functioned well as long as we've been here. We heat on demand, so it takes about a half hour to bring it up to temperature if we've used it the night before, and over the last few weeks, after being on for 15 or 20 minutes it makes an intermittent loud clicking noise for a few seconds, repeated periodically every 10 seconds to few minutes. Might be turning on and off repeatedly? The tub still heats, but it's disconcerting and I'm concerned about lasting damage. There's no error code to see (or temperature for that matter!), and I should at a minimum replace the lcd screen, but I wanted to know if this a problem you've come across and whether there's an easy fix.

You are probably experiencing the heater overheating. Usually caused by a dirty filter, or clogged pump, or VSP too slow. There is just enough flow to close the pressure switch, but not enough to carry the heat away fast so it boils. Usually, but not always, it will trip a high-limit switch, but an older heater like that may have issues with them.
