There is either water coming in from the baffle inside skimmer or it has side ports yiu may feel with your fingers. It's likely not an auto fill just a means to top off. They may have even tapped a nearby plumbing line. Next time the pool is low let it run for an hour and see what happens I bet ur water goes up. Reference the skimmer for water height or use piece of tape

OK...so it appears that water can be topped off (through the skimmer) with this connection. I know, I know...I should know this. My next and last question is can the pump remain on while I top it off this way? Thanks in advance.
