Stubborn Algae problem/Conversion has Begun

I just called Great Value and they said the "09 225" means that it was made in 09 on the 225th day, which is August 13. So the bleach is not old. Whewwww, I feel better about that at least.

This little tidbit of info alone is worth reading the thread!

Keep up the good work! We're all enjoying it... ::epds::

I got back from the university and I can see the bottom clearly now. Even though I have not put any bleach in all afternoon it is still much better than when I left at noon. Still very green floor and walls though. Is that the water color? or did I do something wrong and actually turn my floor and walls turned green? When I pull a sample the water does not look green, so why does the floor and steps look green. I tried to brush it and nothing moved. Will that ladder really turn white again? (see pics)

5:30 PM FC 5.5 added 1.5 jugs of bleach.

Occassionally we get Baq conversions that have the water turning unusual colors. Do you have any reason to suspect high iron levels in your water?

No..... Would that turn my liner and steps green? Maybe they are not really green and it is just the color of the water, but the water just appeared to be getting much clearer but still green on walls and steps. I am probably just paranoid and it will probably go away in another day.

Iron in the water combined with high chlorine can turn the water yellow. In a pool like your's it can make the water appear green. High Copper can also turn the water a funny green color. Have you used any copper-based algaeacides?

Actually my last Algae kill I did while on baquacil was with Sea Clear Algae remover and preventer reccommended by my pool store and it is copper sulphate pentahydrate. So does that change anything in the conversion. I did that several weeks ago.

I actually am probably just paranoid because I put my blue vacuum into the pool and it looked the same color as the floor when it was on the bottom.

6:30 PM FC 6.0 added 1.4 jugs
7:30 PM FC 7.0 added 1.3 jugs
8:30 PM FC 6.5 added 1.4 jugs
9:30 PM FC 7.5 added 1.2 jugs

Anybody have any comments on the last couple of posts? Or any further advise?

You should do an overnight FC loss test tonight. That will give you a good idea of how things are going.

Okay, I can do that. Its 10:30 and I just tested it.

10:30 FC 7.5 adding 1.2 jugs of bleach.

When I added the 5 drops of R-0003 it did not turn pink. it turned Orange. What does that mean? It never did clear up.

In 30 minutes I check it again, Right? and record FC and CC and then compare that with first thing in the morning before the sun comes up. Is that right?

Also - what exactly is a "heaping spoon" of 870 powder? It seems that the more powder I put in the more 0871 drops it takes to clear it up. Is that right or have I not been putting in enough powder the whole time? Should I put in two scoops?

The amount of R-0870 is not critical, as long as the sample turns a nice solid pink. Normally you use either two level scoops or one heaping scoop, which should be just about the same amount of powder. In either case you should be using the rather tiny scoop shaped end to pick up the powder, not the wider/flatter handle end.

Okay, Thanks. What does it mean when the sample then turns to orange color when you add the 5 drops of R-0003?

11:30 FC 10.5 added .7 jugs of bleach (used two level scoops of 870 powder)

Will check what the level is in 30 minutes and see what my FC loss is over tonight. not going to waste reagent on CC right now, I have used up almost on whole bottle of 0871 already and I think I still have a ways to go. :grrrr:

Aug 27 - Day 3

6:30 AM FC 9.5 Added .9 jugs of bleach

Can not see the pool good yet, still to dark, but I think it is better after sitting overnight. I will take a picture at 7:30 when I test it, it should be light enough by then. I did not do the overnight test last night, I fell asleep before I rechecked it (after my last feeding). I will check it tonight.
