I talked to my neighbor about his pool. He mentioned he puts a bag of salt in every other month. He said he stopped testing the water for salt and just puts salt in when the cell says it's low. He also said his cell lasted almost 10 years (Pentair IC40). I was surprised the cell lasted that long.

That's unusually long for a cell, but the rest of the system should last many years. I see ancient AquaPure setups (the power center) still running around here, just with a new cell every few years. I would never, ever go back to liquid chlorine at this point, Stenner or not. Not worth the hassle.

With a long off season and large pool, I need to add 6 or so bags in the spring. Then I'll need to add a bag twice during the season, with the timing depending on the which months are wet.

Unless he is a member here, it's very likely he doesn't understand his system or his pool. He's either testing it with test strips or the pool store if he's even testing in the first place.

What coping/stone do you have around your pool? I talked to the wife today and she is concerned about the limestone wall and lueder coping. I need some examples of pools with similar stone and SWG.
