Started the Great Plumbing Project today!

I told hubby Mike that he can help as long as (a) he stops when I stop and (b) he goes back in the house when I do. No working on his own! It may take longer, but it'll get done on a comfortable, doable schedule. There's no rush.

So today we hauled the pump and filter out to the pad, and installed the new fittings on the pool. The outlet went in slick as owl spit, but we had to drain water for the inlet. It went in with minimal fuss.

I've decided to put in a second outlet later, so I'm debating whether to go ahead and put it in now, closed, or wait til I'm actually ready to run the pipe and miscellany.

You're right! My apologies.

These are marking, cutting, and finally installing the inlet.







There are no leaks, that's water in the pool that drained out when I was cutting the hole. You use one of the gaskets as a template, mark It along the inside hole of the gasket, then CAREFULLY cut along the line. Then push the fitting through from the inside of the pool with one robber gasket, screw on the connector with the two other gaskets, tighten, and Bob's yer uncle.

Not really. I put in a skimmer about 2 years ago, and got over my nerves then. I even messed up the screw holes and had to patch the pool! So I'm a steely eyed pro at cutting pools!

We went to get sand for the new filter and 3 jugs of 10% chlorine today. At the pool store. Dude tried to sell us some sort of stuff in a clear jug called Vertec or something like that. It was 10% sodium hypo, but I didn't trust it. Nowhere did it say "chlorinating liquid". Pool Store Dude said, "It's all we have," then magically found a case of our usual when it was clear he was about to lose the sale!

I swear, they'll try to Pool Store you at every turn if you don't watch 'em!

For what it’s worth, there does appear to be a ‘Vertex’ bleach that appears to be as expected (if this was the stuff).

Went out today and got 75 lbs of sand loaded into the new sand filter before the heat drove us inside. The rest will be done tomorrow. Plumbing has to wait til DH Mike gets the gutter above the pool cleaned out.

Finally all the sand is in and the filter is ready for connection to the pump -- that's gonna happen today.

We have 25 feet of flex pvc, which should be enough including my usual FUBARs. About 4 ft between filter and pump, 7 ft pump to outlet, 3 ft inlet to tee, 3 ft skimmer to tee, 7 ft tee to pump. That's being generous -- I don't think the runs will take that much. If they do and we run out of flex pvc, we'll just drop rigid 1 1/2 inch pvc from the inlet and skimmer and use flex pvc from tee to pump.

I've watched videos from flexpro.com, who has a bunch of videos on using flex pvc on YouTube. He explains and demonstrates the techniques well, and has 2 methods of repairing leaks without taking it all apart! I'm sure I'll need that!

Got the run from the filter to the pump done, and filter to outlet. Tomorrow will be pump to inlet and skimmer, then fill it up and finally open! Pics of the project coming tomorrow as well!

Aaaand it's done! We had to use a bit of rigid pvc because we ran out of flex, but that's okay. Here it is, in all its glory:

We have her filling up and will open the thing later today or tomorrow. So far the water is crystal clear and just some dirt from the cover to be found.
