Standard fitting for acid pump

I'm going to be installing a SWG in the next month or so, and have considered adding an acid pump at the same time. I've decided to wait and see my acid demand after the SWG is running. Is there a standard plumbing fitting I could include when I do the SWG install to prepare for a possible acid pump addition? Should I install a check valve between the heater and acid pump connection to protect against accidental low pH, or is it sufficient to rely on the timer removing power to the acid pump while the filter pump is off? Thanks!

I installed one after my SWG and put a threaded plug in it until I'm ready to install a Stenner pump.



A check valve adds a layer of protection for your heater, but probably wouldn't be needed if you programmed the timer correctly. I don't have a check valve since I run my pump 24/7.

I think I'll skip the check valve too. I plan to run my pump 24/7 as well. I have read some people suggesting that the acid pump should come before the SWG to help keep it clean...do you have an opinion about that?

Bad idea. Put the Stenner injection port last in the sequence. If you manage your chemistry properly, you'll have minimal to no build up on your SWG. Acid cleaning significantly reduces the life of a SWG cell.

Here is how I connected mine. I simply cut a fitting in half, removed the center stop, and glued it to a position before the chlorinator. I then drilled into the pipe through the cut connector and threaded it to 3/8" npt. Then I threaded a 318 SS fitting into the threaded hole. This made it so the check valve isn't sticking up or out anywhere where it might get broken off. I did similar treatment for the JG fittings to the flow cell.

Pentair also makes a clamp on fitting that clamps to the outside of the pipe.
