Symptoms of my STA-RITE heater (model SR400NA) at my recently purchased house (I've never had a pool):
- POOL ON button usually does nothing when pressed, but if pressed about 50 times the machine will turn on with a 63 in the display (burner ignites and warm water coming out of return at pool). I don't have a spa but the SPA ON button is also not responsive.
- However, the UP and DOWN buttons also do not respond, although if I press the UP button ~50 times I can sometimes get a 76 degree reading for about 4-5 seconds, then it reverts to 63 degrees. DOWN button is also unresponsive.
- I tried letting the machine (with ignited burner) and pump run overnight to heat the pool for a party, but the burner was off the next day (pump still pumping). I recall that the display was on showing a 76. Pool water seemed slightly warmer than the night before, but still too cold to stay in very long.
- The next day at the pool party, I could manage to restart the heater/burner (again, ~50 presses of POOL ON button), but it burns for a number of minutes and then shuts off (unit and display still on with no change in temperature display). I can do this repetitively, same result. I assume it is reaching the temperature on the display and then turning off the burner? But as far as I can tell it never reignites the burner on its own unless I do it manually by getting the POOL ON button to work.
- Occasionally, not always, I will get a SERVICE HEATER light come on (I think when the burner shut off, but not sure now). When this light comes on, if I manage to turn the machine off by pressing the HEATER OFF button (~50 times) and manage to turn it back on with the POOL ON button, the SERVICE HEATER light will not be on.
I am guessing that I just need to replace the keypad, but do these symptoms also point to anything else like the circuit board (or other things)??
Thanks for any help.
