Sta-Rite DES 60 - Repair or Replace ??

I have a Sta-Rite DES 60 filter. It works OK, but the filter plates need replacing. I can buy a set of plates, or I can replace the entire filter. I have some questions ...
  1. Are there filters that would connect directly to the existing multi-port valve? (are the inlet/outlet ports in the same position)
  2. Will today's filter last as long as the old Stainless Steel Sta-Rite?
  3. What else do I need to be thinking about to decide between repair/replace.
Please share your wisdom ...

Paul,

I gave up on DE filter several years ago.. I now use a large cartridge filter and will never, ever, go back to DE.

Cartridge filters have dirt simple plumbing with no backwash or MPV to go bad or leak. Very low back pressure, no DE to mess with, and best of all you only have to clean them once or twice a year depending on your location.

Something to think about anyway..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Newer materials will actually last longer than stainless. That valve was designed for that filter, and the DEPs, it won't directly connect to another brand or even a new Sta-Rite. If the tank is in good shape and you are happy with the filter, replace the grids. If you want something easier, go with cartridge. I replaced my DEP51 at least 30 years ago and have never regretted it.
