I have a hayward PS-4 and am not using valve 4. Is it possible to wire that to a sprinkler valve so i could use the automation functions to fill my pool?

Are you talking about standard type irrigation control valves, for example, a RainBird DV valve? Typical irrigation/sprinkler valves use a 24VAC solenoid so you'd have to somehow get that output from your Hayward panel. Irrigation valves use a spring loaded rubber bladder with differential water pressure to open/close the water flow. One of the failure modes of these types of valves is when debris in the water source builds up on the bladder or interferes with how the bladder closes against the valve body. If the bladder doesn't make a tight seal, then you can get what's called a weeping valve which is one that lets a small trickle of water pass right through it. In an irrigation system, this would show up as the last emitter in an irrigation zone constantly weeping water. In a pool fill sceanrio this would show up as a flooded pool so you would want a manual shutoff to be safe. Also, a lot of irrigation valves operate on a lower pressure than what comes out of your outdoor faucet so you will need to plumb it with a backflow preventer/vacuum breaker as well as a pressure-reducer or regulator. Typical irrigation vales operate at 25-30psi while sprinkler heads are higher pressure.
Yes. I use a 1 1/2 sprinkler valve to fill during the night. It's just added to our sprinkler timer under program D. Zone 31. Works like a charm!
