Spots and a Weird Ring

I was away from home for several months and my "pool help" fell through, and as a result the pool was very neglected for a while. I have the water back in shape, but there are lots of stains.

Primarily, there are lots of little spots that appear to be dark green. They almost look like moss and are in the nooks and crannies of the gunite. Then there is this strange ring that is actually growing in diameter.

I've included a couple of pictures.

Any idea what these spots and the ring are? More importantly, how to get rid of them?

I have done the SLAM treatment and the water is in otherwise good shape. I have tried scrubbing these spots but they don't budge.

Hi James - thanks for the info.

Can you elaborate on the Vitamin C idea for the ring? What to get and how to apply it?

Do you have a theory of what that ring actually is?

Regular Vitamin C for the ring.

It might be a metal stain like iron.
