Spa water smells a little...funky...

I have a spa that overflows into my 25000 in ground pool.

Water looks ok - chlorine is good (haven't tested in a while) but the water smells a little "stale"

I'm not sure why this is - its "shared" water with the pool and the pool smells ok.

When i heat the spa and use it, i change the valve setup so it only circulates water in the spa (and turns off the pool)

Is there something anyone would recommend to put into the spa water when I'm using it to "freshen" it up a bit?

Not sure what the issue is but I program my spa's jets, blower and the spa to go on once a day to circulate chlorine thru all the pipes. I run in spa mode for 15 minutes, spa jets for 5 minutes and floor blower for one minute. May have stale water in the pipes is one thought.
