Spa stopped heating but spillover started

Hello, newbie here with a spa and pool controlled by a pentair water controller.
Earlier this week the spa heated up just fine, and the spillover wasnt active(fine by us).
Today all of a sudden the spillover is active and the spa won’t heat up.
Im guessing that the spa can never get up to temperature if the spillover is letting all the hot water into the pool.
Is there a way I can turn off the spillover? Or is the spillover being active not the reason why the spa won’t heat up?

edit: additional info: The spa remote is blinking red. This all occurred after the spa was cleaned so maybe it’s like a pump priming or fuse issue?

You need to tell us specifics... What "water" controller, what pump, etc..

And show us some pics of your equipment pad.. I doubt anything is bad, I believe that you just have the automation confused.

Here are the details!



One of the valves appears to be in service mode and the attached tan filter basket thing on the leftmost pump has no water in it

Is this a new pool? Has the pool builder ever set it up?

Some things that make no sense so far..

1. The valve in front of your main pump needs to be able to select between the Pool and the Spa for where it gets its water.. The SPA drain is shut off!!!

2. The actuator in front of your main pump is set to Service mode, so it will never work...

3. Your two actuators are not set to the same mode.. Your Return actuator is set to the Spa mode, while your Intake actuator is set to "almost"Pool mode. In theory, both actuators should be in the either the Pool mode or the Spa Mode..

If your pool is new, I suggest that you have your pool builder come out and show you how to work it..

If you don't want to do that, we can walk you though how to do it, the best we can..

Be honest.. were you screwing with the actuator's positions???

It is a new pool that was set up correctly by the builder, however I think it was just recently that a pool cleaner came through and that's when the spa stopped heating. I haven't touched the actuator or anything on the pad.

If it's not too much trouble I would really appreciate some help on fixing it myself. I'm normally pretty handy, but pools are a new area for me. I can follow instructions well though

It sounds like I have to open the spa main drain valve and put the actuator on auto mode?

Yes, let's start there and see where we are.. Open the red handle for the Spa drain, and set the actuator to auto..

Then select Pool mode and see where the Return and Intake valves move..

In the Pool mode, water should be sucked from the pool, through the Intake valve and into the main pump.. then pushed through the filter and heater, etc, and back through the Return valve and back to the pool.

I have never worked with the IntelliValve before, but it appears the little red dot points to the "Off" position. Looking at the Return valve in your picture, the red dot is pointed at the Pool Return, shutting it off..

Yes I've had some luck! Thank you for the tips.
I opened the spa drain and set the actuator to auto. In spa mode, the spa spillover stopped (which I think is good) and the spa eventually heated to 95 degrees. The target is 102 and it seems like it's unable to hit that amount even after a day.

It seems like there is some heating issue that is causing the spa to heat very slowly and not reach it's 100+ degree target

Have you cleaned the filter? The filter is very small. That may be decreasing the flow to the heater, slowing down the heating process. Could also play a role in not reaching temperature. Although you have a heat pump and I don't really know much about those

Two things I would look at.. It looks like you have a heater by pass valve.. I can't tell in the pic how it works, or where it needs to be set, but I would try to force more water through the heat pump..

Not sure how your heat pump is configured, but in most cases the EasyTouch just tells the heater to "Heat" or not.. The heater should be set to full hot.. If you have the heater set to 95 degrees, and then use ScreenLogic to set the set point to 104, the heater will never get above 95.

Some heats are connected via a fireman's switch and others are connected via an RS-485 connection.. Do you have any idea how yours is connected? What specific heater do you have??

Thanks for the tips about the heat pump. I think the pool cleaner turned off the heat pump. I just turned it back on and will wait a few hours to see if it's back up to normal.

Before no lights were on, but I just hit the on button and now it's spinning up!
