Hey folks

I’m starting up a hot tub and last night added the right amount of sodium bromide (about 1.5 oz for 300 gal) and filled the bromine floater with bromine tabs (with holes fully open).

As of today I have no bromine reading yet and am concerned about getting the sanitizer level up before I get biofilm, etc.

Is it safe to add liquid chlorine to supplement the bromine until the tabs start emitting enough sanitizer? Also, bonus question, why does the bromine take so long to start working?

Bromine is created by oxidizing bromide. Chlorine is an oxidizer, and the main ingredient in the tablets. By adding chlorine you will create bromine. It takes a while with tablets because tablets are meant to maintain, not create, a bromine residual.
