South Alabama Swamp Slam

SLAM seems to be going well. Still not passing the OCLT but the pool is still so cloudy I'm just scrubbing blind. It's been 6 days so far. I'm thinking about adding some DE to my filter to help it along. Is it too soon to do this? Should I just practice more POP? I'm backwashing about once a day.

I havent seen the snapping turtle in awhile so I'm assuming he is long gone to a less chlorinated swamp!

Too soon for OCLT. don’t bother with it until you have clear water. Just keep slamming. That epic swamp is going to take time!

If there is still debris in the pool, do your best to scoop it out. All that’s doing is causing your chlorine to focus on the debris.

Try not backwashing as often, maybe every other day or so. You want your filrers to run a little dirty to filter out finer particles. Keep at the SLAM, try hairnets ir skimmer socks over the skimmer basket. If you still have trouble clearing let me know I have another idea with a 5 micron or 1 micron bag over your return jet.

I'm only backwashing when the pressure goes up. Clean it's about 15 psi so I clean it when it gets over 20. If it gets up higher than that it chokes the pump down.
Kelly i think i got all the debris out. I raked it again today and i got about 10 leaves. Unless there's a dead 10lb snapping turtle in there somewhere but I doubt it. I figured it would take about 2 weeks to start seeing the bottom.

Sounds good. On a sand filter yeah two weeks sounds about right. I like to advocate here whats called a Duda Diesel bag over the return jet with an elbow and hose clamp in place to speed up the dead algae removal process once you kill it off with the SLAM to get you to at least cloudy blue. Sound like you have a good 2hp pump with high GPM. GPH turnover rate. Whats your pool size by gallon?

I turn mine inside out and power wash over my storm drain then turn it right side in again and power wash it again. But you don't have to you can just simply take it to your kitchen sink and hit it with the hose jet with hot water same procedure. I've been using mine for 3 years.

I just bleach washed it with my whites and socks for the first time last week. I noticed the filtration efficacy went down a little bit, so don't try that as of yet if you do order the bag.

But it's simply consist of a Duda diesel 4 x 14 polyester felt heat-treated bag with a Hayward 90 degree elbow, and a hose clamp you can get it any hardware or auto parts store. If you want I'll get you the link and part numbers.
