Something stuck in Check Valve.. O ring?

Can anyone tell me what this is in my check valve? It looks like a white ring and it is partially blocking the pump.

I tried to open the check valve but it did not open easily so I want to be sure.

Can you advise how to open that? Filter off. Service Mode. But I could not twist off the cover. Are there screws?

It should just unscrew.

Close the suction valves and open the pump lid to release the pressure.

Ok got it. The Jandy actuator was blocking the cover from unscrewing all the way off. I had to loosen the actuator to twist off the cover nut.

I pulled out what looks like a slice of PVC. I assume this does not belong in the plumbing.

It this a new pool, or recently re-plumbed? That looks like a bit some plumber carelessly let get into the plumbing after he cut it off to make the pipe he was working on fit properly.

New pool. Finished and Filled in November. I sent the pics to my PB and he agreed it was trash. I guess I just learned something about my pool. I would not have thought to check the check valve for debris.
