Hello. Fairly new pool owner here. I just checked on my pool after some pretty arctic weather. It's got about 1/2" of ice and some green algea on the floor. The water temperature under the ice is about 41°F. I'm trying to prevent a green swamp upon opening. I have not tested the water. Should I add some chlorine once ice melts and circulate with a submersible pump? Thanks 😊

You definitely want to wait until the ice melts completely before messing with it (disturbing ice can slice your liner)
& mixing in liquid chlorine with a submersible pump is a good idea (also brush the area to ensure no chlorine rests on the liner)
You need to know your cya level to be sure you add an appropriate amount of liquid chlorine
FC/CYA Levels
How are you testing the water?

I wouldn’t risk the damage. If you have some algae now it’s going to be slow growing. Just tackle the pool opening as early as you can (before the water temp reaches 60F) and a SLAM will go very, very quickly.

Thanks! The ice will probably all be melted in the next week or so as we will have some mild temperatures in the forecast. Plus I'll need to drain some water.

I have a home test kit with all the things- forgot name of exact kit.

Be sure to list what you have (they all have numbers)
& if it’s missing anything we’ll show what you need to make it complete
