(Solved) Can my old WhisperFlo WFE-26 1.5hp really only consume .5 kWh per hour?

Many utilities have $300ish rebates for energy star (Variable speed pool pumps) and there are bunch of 3HP variable speed pumps in the $500-600 range so after rebate about the same cost as the SS pump replacement. You may want to look into this.

CaliMar Variable Speed Pool Pump 3HP is an example

Fwiw, the whole analysis is probably moot, since pump replacements over 1.15 hp need to be VSPs to meet current law/regulations. (No?) The wisdom here is definitely to go with a 3hp VSP if you can.

Thanks I'll look and see if rebates are being offered here. I was considering the Calimar but it sits higher than my current pump necessitating some PVC work but there is no space between the joints to replumb.

Other than maybe CA it looks like they can no longer be manufactured or imported but pumps still in the supply chain can still be sold. If I didn't have the plumbing issue mentioned above I would upgrade. Thanks.

Fwiw I replaced a 1.5 hp Whisperflo with 3 hp Intelliflo three years ago. Now, 100 watts moves 38 gpm at 1100 rpm, and the pump is nearly silent. I run it 24x7. Love it.
