I’m in Phoenix and lose an outrageous amount of water a day in the summer. Seems wasteful (although it’s not gone it’s just transported elsewhere) and I want to try DIY solar rings. Probably going to 1/2” drip tubing for the ring part.

My question is can I negate the heating effects of it as I don’t want to heat up my pool? Evaporation is cooling but wondering if there is something I’m missing. I read about 10 degree heating effect which in the summer would make the water uncomfortably hot here.

Covering your pool in the summer will drive the temperature up to 100F or higher. I would not recommend it unless you have an evaporative chiller.

There's nothing you can do to avoid evaporation without adding heat to the pool so that's a non-starter. Just accept the fact that you will be adding several inches of water to the pool in the summer. I use an aerator full time from June to September and the water is still just too warm some days, though we enjoy a night swim often. No plans for a chiller for me and the grandkids don't mind the warmth. I put my water saving into changing my fan-spray sprinkler heads to MP rotators that conserve water and cutting down from watering 5 days a week to 3. Eventually we'll remove the front lawn too.
