Solar covers - install direction?

Hi all, first actual post here, not even a pool owner yet but looking for a contractor right now. This is the pool we're thinking about

My question is about solar covers. The ideal location for the above ground (bolted in?) roller would be along the red line, which is long ways along the pool and I've only seen them the short way. For this pool with a cutout it would also seem to make sense that direction to cover the cutout more easily... ? In our case the long direction follows the fence line (with appropriate setback) and would never be in the way there.

Longer term I'd love an automatic motorized cover - would it be possible with this shape of pool?

thanks

You can put a solar cover on/off anyway you want. I'll just warn you that a majority of folks I've read have cut their solar covers down to manageable size pieces that they can lay on the water and remove easily. If you're going to have a solar cover reel it gets a bit trickier.

As for an autocover- I have one that we installed after the deck was poured so that it remains on top of the deck rolled out as desired. It follows some very low tracks along the desired edge and opens and closes with a flick of a key situated high up on my deck overlooking the pool.
Since you have a small extension area around those stairs you just put the track on that side at the furthest edge of the pool. We had a bench built to match our deck to cover the roll initially.
