Soaking cartridge filters in acid?

I moved and am in the process of building a new pool.

I am a lover or DE filters, but our home does not have a city sewer connection. So, I would have to backwash the DE to somewhere in my back yard which is ok because I have space an always pull out the filter assembly for a 100% cleaning.
Or...
Go with a cartridge filters. I am ok with pulling out the filters and cleaning them manually (since its almost the same method for DE). Do you have to soak the cartridge filters in an mixture of muriatic acid and water to get the oil's out?

C,

I just installed new cartridges for the first time today. They are just about 8 years old and actually in good shape. In all that time, I never once soaked them in anything. After 8 years, even when dirty, my filter pressure, at 1200 RPM (where I run most of the time), is about 3 or 4 lbs. on a 30 lb. gauge.

I am soaking the old cartridges now, just to see if it is even worth the effort. The four new cartridges were $200 bucks, so $25 a year if I just buy new ones every 8 years, or the time and effort to soak the old ones. Not sure it is worth it, but going to give it a shot.

The bigger the filter the better... I have the CCP-520 and love it. I will never, ever go back to a DE filter again.

Thanks,

Jim R.

In a perfect situation you would have a second set of grids soaking in TSP and when needed exchanged with the currently dirty grids. Soaking grids is the most efficient way to clean them. Using a high pressure nozzle only pushes the contaminates deeper into the grid lowering its efficiency to pass water through it. TSP helps removes the oils.

C,

Here is my dirt-simple equipment pad.

I suggest a Jandy valve between the pump and the filter input, so you can remove the pump basket without draining the filter down.

I have just been too lazy to do it. Most of the time I never have to take my pump lid off except when I clean the filter twice a year.

Thanks,

Jim R.
