So I know someone somewhere said change the water in your tub every 4-6 months or something, why?? I'm asking cause my hot tub just gave me the warning to change water. The water is crystal clear, well balanced, a breeze to take care of so is there a real good reason I should change it?

A,

Over time most spas build up oils, and other contaminates that sanitizers can't breaker down..

It is pretty obvious when that happens to me.. :(

If you don't see the issue, then don't change the water until you do..

Thanks,

I guess it depends on your own "attention to detail". I notice a big difference in the look of the water when it's a fresh fill. The bubbles and the water in general just look better. Haven't done it yet, but I'm going to start doing partial changes every few weeks to see if I can prolong that new water look. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with not changing it, as long as you are sanitizing properly, but all of that broken down stuff is still in the water (even though it's crystal clear).

Well I dont do a partial change but I add probably 20-25 gallons every few weeks to compensate for splash out, evaporation, and stuff. And ALL that broken down stuff is not still in there, the ozonator gets some, the filter gets some so its not all still in there but I understand what you are saying..
I normally change it maybe every 4-6 months, I'm just wondering why is all.. thanks.

Ahhh, nothing like a fresh fill! It's funny how the hot tub water slowly changes from that bright sparkly blue with bubbles that instantly vanish when they reach the surface. I can tell when it's time to change the water, and it rarely coincides with the time-based reminder on my control panel.

The water itself only costs a couple bucks, but it is at least a half-day project for me between drain, wipe down, swap filters out, fill, and balance. So worth it, though! I actually thought it would be an interesting project to plumb in some automatic drain/fill valves so I could ask Siri to do it...

Yes, and I agree you can tell by the bubbles, and I agree it doesn't coincide with the control panel, but then this is the first hot tub I've had with reminders on it.

Due to the high iron content here I fill my tub out of my pool so its not completely "new" water anyway...
