So Cal Pool Remodel Cost?

Definitely use the bonding grid around the pool. A grid greatly reduces the risk of stray currents being felt around the pool area.

Also, be careful with the pool being empty as it could potentially float if you get high ground water.

What's happening with the hydrostat?

I will be using the bonding grid once I'm at that stage. I was kind of worried about draining it however I managed to ask every pool company that came to give me an estimate regarding any water table or pool popping issues here in So cal and every one of them said I would have no issues draining it. Hope I'm not the first

So I started working on electrical and discovered that my light might have at one point been wired to the intermatic timer however the light wires were simply cut and loose inside the intermatic box. The intermatic/pump is wired to a 30amp dual breaker, as far as I know I could/should run a dedicated 15amp breaker and GFCI for the pool light, there was no gfci previously so I'm glad the pool light wasn't connected.

I admire your DIY approach and I'm not trying to tell you what to do but do yourself and future swimmers a favor and familiarize yourself with the latest (2014) NEC Pool Code. Mike Holt Electrical has a whole series of online videos and tutorials explaining the NEC Pool Code. I know your "remodel" doesn't require permitting BUT pool electrical work is not something to be cavalier about as it literally can mean life or death. You seem like a really capable person so I'm sure you can get it done on your own but TFP definitely supports and stresses always maintaining a pool within the boundaries of m the proper electrical codes for ones jurisdiction.

Good luck on the rebuild.

I actually have a good amount of electrical experience, none with a pool though. If I had to wire a new sub panel or mess with breakers etc it would be a much more daunting task however the previous owners of the house ran an extra 15amp line from the electrical panel and its conveniently around 15 ft from the pool equipment so that makes things much easier. In any case my cousins husband works for the Department of Water and Power and said he would assist me this weekend to make sure things are good. I totally understand you though electricity is not something to play with.

Sounds good. Do check out the Mike Holt information though. Pool electrical code has features and requirements that are quite a bit different than residential electrical codes. There are things that you can do in and around a home that you can't do with pools. There are also strict distance requirements between powered electrical devices and junction boxes with respect to the water's edge. The code requirements might make you reconsider or do differently some things you have planned. Also, thinking ahead, no matter if you pull permits or not, a future sale of the home will be contingent upon everything in the home being up to code. Doing something by the code now can avoid a costly remediation later.

Late to this thread but i had to comment: YOU HAVE MY POOL!
or at least my last pool...always fun seeing a familiar design. I sure do miss that diving well depth.

I would definitely do everything (if it were me) to bring the bonding up to current code while it's apart like that.

Spent the weekend running electrical, 30amp line (10awg stranded wire) for the pump and 15amp gfi protected line (12awg stranded wire) for the pool light all ready to go. Next step is to install the skimmer and then work on core drilling out the old 1 1/4 copper returns son I can put in 1.5 pvc sch40 lines.

Thanks @borjis. Definitely good for diving. Anyone have any suggestions on where to get the copper mesh for bonding? I read that steel mesh from Home Depot/lowes might be a viable option also. Finally the weekend is here and I can get back to work on this project.

Harger makes copper mesh for pools:

Platt has erico brand copper mesh

Haven't updated in a couple of weeks, been busy. Skimmer instalation at new location in process.

Haven't updated in a while...

so we went with a Tuscany scabas travertine coping. $11.25/sq ft.

Installation took a few days with all the cuts and working by myself really was taxing, but I got it done since my pool company wanted to do cantilever coping, but my fiancée wanted travertine...

yesterday they came to chip out the old plaster, they will start on tile sometime this week. In the meantime I have to finish forming and pouring my waterfalls then have to install some scabas Stacked stone on the raised wall.

Looking great, Erdon. I really like the waterline tile. Who's the manufacturer? Definitely go for the abalone shells. Several recent builds used shells, and they look amazing. If I decide to go with a pebble finish, I will also use shells.
