I’m sorry to hear. I really hope that there is treatment that can help or at least slow the progression. Once you know what you’re dealing with you can at least have a plan of action and it sounds like he’s in good hands with the specialist. Let me know how you get on.

Our old cat is now struggling. We have been expecting to have to say goodbye to her for many years so it won’t be unexpected when the time comes. I’m just not ready for it right now and neither are the boys.
 
Not much to report. Still waiting on the slide to be fixed after the pb warped one section during installation. The SR Smith guy was beyond wonderful. He spent 3 hours trying to retap a hole. It’s bolted down and can be used but will need to be pulled apart when he comes back to replace a section. Bad news is there will likely be a colour variation. Oh well. Just want this thing done. Anyone have any suggestions as to a sump pump that I can set up so I can run the pool water? SR Smith guy says it’s a better option than the hose but not sure what to look for/how to set it up. Might just be cold hose water for the boys! Should have put more thought into hard plumbing for it but we have significantly moved it’s location from where we thought we would put it. Unfortunately there is no real option now to hard plumb from a return given where all our pipes run.

Still waiting on correct drain grate and small amount of silicone to be done by pb and this slide sorted then we are DONE with them. Have the back and side of the house scheduled to be rescheduled. Then just need some more river rock around the pool and that’s us finished. Really will be good timing with spring around the corner. Pool is running beautifully and there’s really not much at all that I need to do. False alarm with the drop in ch. I retested and rested my retest and it’s at 225 exactly where it was. Maybe I had my hopes up that I needed to add something or do something other than day to day maintenance [emoji23]

A photo of Jeff this morning coming up to say hi! Hopefully will have photos soon of the slide in use once I can figure out how to set up water to it.

So glad to hear that she's got something treatable! We had to say goodbye to one of our 17-year olds a few weeks ago...she had arthritis and kidney disease for a number of years. She was actually in pretty decent shape despite that until the last week or so. I have to say, I am laughing at the mental picture of a cat with an inhaler - but so happy that she's hanging in there.

I have to say, your thread has been wonderful to follow. You've been ahead of us in your build and we've had the opportunity to learn from your decisions. Thanks for that!

I’m so sorry to hear Jen. I think you know when it’s time to say goodbye. As hard as it is there is some peace when they’re older and have had a long happy life.

I’m glad you have enjoyed following our build and our dramas! If my thread saves one person from going through some of the dramas we did it makes me happy.

Will be interesting to see you use that on your cat - Might be easier to train her to go for a swim in your pool I reckon... :)

My last 2 moggies passed away at 16 & 18 yrs of age. Have not had pets for a few years now but my daughter really wants a cat - so we will probably end up with 2 cats later this year after our pool project winds down towards the summer months.


Looks like 'Jeff' is about to take a tumble backwards...!

Sixteen and 18 are great ages for a cat. You should definitely get another 2 once things have settled down with the pool. Kittens are so much easier than puppies. This old cat of ours is anywhere between 12 and 15. We’ve had her for over 10 years but she was an adult cat when we got her. Our other cat we got as a kitten is a Burmese. He’s only 4 but will likely live forever.

Will try and post a photo of the aerocat in use but might need to get my 12 year old to help. He can do the cat and I’ll take the photos [emoji23].
 
I feel like the bearer of bad news, but regarding the slide, I wouldn't put a 240 volt submersible pump in the pool while people are swimming, and I can't imagine, even without the power aspect, that you'd want it hanging in the pool! The one I have is a cheapy Ozito and it's pretty small but won't fit in the skimmer, and wouldn't pump enough water for a slide anyway.

The slide will need 75 or 80 litres per minute (20 GPM), so they need to run a 25 mm (1") line for the slide from equipment pad to slide, and a valve so you can run it or not at your preference. If they included a slide in your package, it's up to them to figure out how to get the water to it. It was up to them to provide for it during the plumbing rough-in, provided they knew it was coming.

At worst, you could run a surface line and paint it beige to hide it a bit. You could have unions on either end so you could put it away if need be, for example if the look of it doesn't suit you, but you still want to be able to use it. Something like that would at least look better than a garden hose strung around.

I would set up for 2 garden hoses to get enough water to it, if that's the only option, but the pool water level will rise fairly quickly.

I had a feeling a sub pump would be out and no I didn’t like that idea of it.

As for the pb setting up water connection... that’s never going to happen! I had the fight for them to install it. Contract just states slide and doesn’t mention installation. Apparently mine was the first they have installed and no doubt why they stuffed it up so badly and ruined sections of it in the process. The SR Smith guy said none of the pbs actually install the slides that they offer in contract and if they do they always stuff it up and mine wasn’t as bad as lot he’s seen. He said it will be just enough flow to connect to a hose and will help me with it when he comes back if I haven’t already set it up. I’m not worried about water level. I loose so much water when the boys swim even with the overflow plugged. It’s more the watering down of chemicals but that hasn’t been an issue so far as I’ve had to top it up with the hose each time they swim. I guess I will be just doing the same via the slide. Hard plumbing is definitely out. There is absolutely no way to do this without ripping out paving/concrete etc.

Yeah, really should have put more thought into it but it’s easy to say in hindsight. Even if I have to stand there with the hose at the top we’ll make it work! The garden hose will be hidden under a few inches of river rock once I get it sorted so at least it won’t be an eye sore. I guess if this is the worst of it we are pretty fortunate.
 
Anyone else have to put on their sunglasses to look at her pretty water??? Man look at that water sparkle! THAT is truly TFP water!

Gurrrrrrrrr on the slide but glad the slide guy was so kind. Seems to me it might be worth their while to include installation to help save them extra work after it is installed and messed up!

Thanks Kim! I do love my TFP water.

It would be great if the manufacturer included installation to avoid this sort of problem. I actually called them while the huge box was in the driveway to see if they had an installer I could pay to come out and install it and they don’t. I have the top Australian rep and he knows absolutely everything about them and the installation. Maybe he should train someone who can do that job. It’s very much needed.

Even though you don't have it hard plumbed and that seems like a pain now, just keep remembering that that slide will come down one day and that is one less thing you'll have to deal with when it does.

You have the right attitude...just use your garden hoses and make it work! If your boys are anything like my son they won't care one bit about cold water, it's all about the fun!

Thanks for your kind words. I had another read of the general description of the slide and it says can be plumbed used with a garden hose or with no water at all so looks like it should be fun regardless. Although hard plumbing seems like something we should have done you are right. The slide will come down one day and we will only be left with 8 tiny holes to fill with grout which shouldn’t be too noticeable. A huge hole for plumbing would be a different story. We also really had envisioned the slide going in a completely different location to where it ended up and would have been stuck with that location had we hard plumbed. We are definitely keen to be done with the pb. This hasn’t really surprised me at all. It’s sad when you no longer bat an eyelid at problems!
 
Slide is a massive hit! It’s positioned perfectly and when they come to a stop they’re right in the middle of the pool at the deepest part. They moved pretty quickly without water. Not sure a strong flow would be a good thing. Would likely throw them into the bench. Think the garden hose will be ample perhaps no water might even be best. Will see. Oh the water loss though [emoji15] Btw my water looks rubbish when they’re swimming. Must be the turbulence they create! 26* today and blue skies.

I don't see any color difference on the slide. I am hoping it is not too noticeable but the boys don't seen to mind at all!!

That looks great...! Kids loving it by the looks of it.

Good thing it was never hard plumbed in... Easy to remove and conceal the mounts when the kids get older and possibly grow out of it.

Thanks Kim. It makes my heart happy too! This is pretty much the finished that they’ve been waiting for since we signed contract on Dec 5th. It’s so great to be able to deliver on our promise to them.

This is the original sections. The replacement piece hasn’t been delivered yet. It’s safe, just warped with additional washers in one section.

No I haven’t been down it yet lol!

Yes no water flowing at all! My eldest said a bit of water would have made it a bit smoother ride so I think the garden hose will be perfect.
