Small circular crack in fiberglass pool floor?

I noticed our pool's rate of evaporation appeared to be more than usual.

After investigating, I found this crack/hole the size of a thumb print on the floor towards the deep end.

It is pushed in a bit and there appears to be another crack through part of the center of it if you look closely.

If you gently tap on it there is a whisp of dirt/sand that comes into the pool. I have not performed a bucket test yet.

There was never any bubble or anything noticeable prior. Just poof, a crack was born.

The floor feels solid/no void noticeable around that area.

No improper items have even been in the pool. It was installed ~13 yrs ago.

Any ideas what could be the cause of a failure like this? I presume even though its pretty small, this is a brace/drain/fiberglass repair job?

Perhaps, but technology has come so far there may other methods of application we aren't familiar with. This is one of those scenarios where the more people you reach out to in the industry, FG pool manufactures, installers, and even marine repair shops, the more likely you'll be to find the best solution. Sorry to see you going through that issue. :(

If you can get dirt/sand to come into the pool by tapping on that, you have a hole in the pool shell that needs to be addressed ASAP. That's the dirt/fill below the pool. If it isn't leaking now, it will be.

It is definitely leaking, but pretty slowly.

I heard back that the mfg will cover the repair under warranty.

Although, I am responsible for bracing and draining it prior to repair, which is this Sunday. Or paying their contractor $750 to do that, although they expected me to do it, which seems wild to me.

I am still confused what may be the root cause of this failure.

I guess because the pool was installed some 13+ years ago, it's well beyond the installer's responsibility. If you asked around, I would guess any local company would charge the same or more. I seem to recall @MAPR-Austin showing some block & bracing work in the past.
