SLAM Question

My CC is .5. CYA 40. FC 6.5. I am one month into my new water after purging with Ahhsome gel. For the first month, I barely added any liquid chlorine. Now I am adding every day as I am trying to keep FC between 5-7 based on my CYA of 40. Do I need to SLAM my hot tub? It has a UV system.

And I guess I don't really know the correct procedure to SLAM. I have read several articles and I know I need to get to 16 in SLAMMING. I have the proper test kit to make sure I get to 16 and not just rely
on a weight calculation. I know to leave off the air jets. What I am unclear about is how long to keep the Cl level at 16? 2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours???

During this first year, I have never seen CC above .5. It's just that over time I keep having to add liquid CL more frequently. Like every night after we get out I add 2-3 oz and then the next morning I add more to get the CL to 7. OH, I do have some MPS.

Or do I just need to take a "chill pill" and keep doing what I'm doing? From my understanding I should never have to SLAM as long as I keep my CL level above 3 with a CYA of 40. My guts tell me I need to kill whatever is eating up the CL. My water is crystal clear and smells fantastic.

A spa is not a small pool. All that you read about pools does not apply to a spa.

CC of 0.5 is fine for you.

Just keep on doing what you have been doings adding chlorine.

Do you have a cover on the spa?

How often do you change the spa water?

It is covered and I am now on a 4 month water change interval.

But it bothers me that with the fresher water, I use almost no CL. After a month, I gotta go back to adding CL so often. Same useage. Just me and my wife 6 nights a week.

Leave the cover open at times so the sun can burn off the CC.

That is just bather load and usage in a small body of water. The CL is cleaning up what you leave in the water.

Gebo,
It kinda seems like you are micromanaging a little.
Are you using the spa again in the morning when you add more fc or just dosing twice a day?
If not using it just dose higher after your evening soak - enough to get you through your next proposed soak. If you miss that one then check the spa at that time.
as AJ mentioned- cc’s .5 or less are fine & normal.
No need to slam unless the cc’s increase & remain persistent or the water is not looking right. It’s nearly impossible to do an oclt on a spa that’s had any use - there will gradually be more & more standby fc loss as the water ages.
The UV (if functioning) will also consume some of the fc.
Just keep feeding it & you’ll be fine 😊

It seems I am being forced to a salt water generator. LOL
