I recently had to SLAM due to cloudy water and a failed CC test. I started the SLAM and things really didn't progress for several days. I had a devil of a time keeping my FC at SLAM level. In fact, it was only immediately after adding MORE than pool math suggested that my FC level would go above 24ppm. I attributed that to my bleach possibly being somewhat long in the tooth. I am going to test my bleach for potency today.

However, I noticed something yesterday that in my scurry to start SLAMming I hadn't noticed previously: Heavy rains had brought my water line to the very top of the skimmer opening. Normally I try to keep it right in the center of the opening. My question to you all is: Would having the water level that high have a significant impact on the pace of my SLAM? The output from the jets seemed normal the whole time, and there seemed to be plenty of water circulation, but once I backwashed to bring the level down a bit, the pace of the SLAM seemed to pick up and the water is much clearer today. In fact, I am declaring my SLAM completed because my OCLT and CC tests passed and the water truly is as clear as it's going to be these days.
